It’s imperative that we consistently draw close to God, in doing that, we become more like him. The word of God says, “there is no unrighteousness in Him.” (psalm 92:15c) For us to be void of unrighteousness, we need to move closer to God.
that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
Romans 8:4-8
To be spiritual in this context means to conquer the flesh; to overpower the Adamic nature, and to rule over self. The word of God says, “for the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” (Gal 5:17) The flesh is eager to gain control and dominate our spirits, but the only way to gain control over the flesh and live right is to walk in the spirit. The word of God says, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Gal 5:16)
Pathway to Christian Spirituality
Be Poor in Spirit
To be poor in spirit does not symbolize spiritual emptiness or physical poverty, rather a vessel willing to have more of God. The poor in spirit, regularly run back to God to be filled. They need more of Him; they want to be filled each day to gain access into the mystery of the kingdom. The word of God says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) A man who is poor in spirit will take advantage of every spiritual opportunity; he does not think he knows it all; he makes himself available for every spiritual blessing. The poor in spirit go to God to purchase that which is needed to become rich spiritually. The Lord advised the church in Laodiceans to buy from Him gold refined in the fire, that they might be rich.
- Do you want the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh?
- Do you have enough room in your heart for God to occupy?
A Genuine Desire
Our level of hunger and thirst for God determines how far we journey with God. An intense craving for more of God will draw us closer to Him. The word of God says, “blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Mathew 5:6) You go after what you desire until you receive it. That desire is what the Lord is waiting for. He’s calling everyone to come to the waters and drink. That’s the promise in the book of Isaiah.
Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.” (Isaiah 55:1)
A Lifestyle Given to Prayers and Fasting
It takes God’s grace to live holy. However, if our prayer altar is cold, fleshy desires are inevitable. When our prayer altar is hot, impurities burn off, and our spirit man is cleansed. Immorality is rampant in the body of Christ today because of prayerlessness. A prayerless church will produce a sinful congregation. When a man prays to an extent, sinful thoughts vanish, and God’s spirit broods over such person’s spirit.
For our prayers to generate fire that burns-off impurities, our hearts must be given to God. If we set our hearts on mundane things, we give room for the devil to be enthroned in our hearts, and no amount of prayer will set us free until we surrender our hearts to God.
My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways. (Proverbs 23:26)
Be Addicted to The Word of God
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:9-11
God’s word must dwell in our hearts, not in our brains, and be saturated in our spirits to be effective. God’s word is a vitamin to our souls; it renews our minds and sanctifies our hearts to live holy. If God’s word can have full expression in our lives, we will not dwell in sin.
My prayer is that everyone reading this book will receive the grace to live a spotless life.
