Waiting on God can be exhausting, especially when it stretches for years. It is one of the greatest tests of our faith. Yet, even in our longest seasons of waiting, God assures us of His unwavering presence: “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). God is faithful, reliable, and cannot abandon His own. No matter how long the wait, He has not forgotten you.
Life’s challenges may sometimes make us question God’s presence or His faithfulness. Difficult circumstances, unanswered prayers, or prolonged delays can weigh heavily on the heart. But God reminds us: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2). Even in the most intense storms, His presence sustains us.
My beloved brothers and sisters, waiting on God does not mean passivity—it is an active posture of faith. You do not need to give up or seek ungodly solutions out of impatience. God’s timing is perfect, and His plans are always for your ultimate good.
I want to share a personal testimony. A few years ago, I went through a season of extreme difficulty. I had prayed for years for a particular situation to change, but nothing seemed to improve. During that time of struggle, I received many suggestions and possible solutions from different people, including some whom I greatly respected. Though their ideas sounded reasonable, they did not align with my faith in Christ nor with God’s plan for my life.
On a particular day, when all hope seemed lost, yet another suggestion contrary to my faith came to me. I looked up to God and asked, “Lord, is this really the way out You have provided?” In that very moment, He spoke to my heart: “The game is not over. If you are waiting, wait until the end.” Those words brought peace and clarity. Joy returned to my heart, and I realized that God was orchestrating everything, even through my trials. He was preparing to reveal His glory through my challenges.
This reminded me of the story of Lazarus. When Jesus was called to heal him, Lazarus was alive but seriously sick. Yet Jesus did not come immediately. He waited until Lazarus had died, allowing the situation to grow worse before He arrived. To the onlookers, all hope seemed lost—the game appeared to be over. Yet Jesus knew the game was far from over. When He finally arrived, He performed a miraculous act, raising Lazarus from the dead. What had seemed hopeless became a powerful testimony of God’s power, faithfulness, and perfect timing.
Likewise, your situation may feel hopeless today. You may feel that doors are closed, opportunities have passed, or your prayers are going unheard. But I want to remind you: the game is not over. God’s timing is perfect. He sees the end from the beginning, and even when it seems like nothing is happening, He is working behind the scenes for your good. What looks impossible to us is never impossible for Him. Trust Him, remain patient, and hold fast to your faith—your breakthrough is on the way.
During seasons of waiting, it can be easy to grow weary, discouraged, or even frustrated. Yet, it is in these moments that God is working behind the scenes—shaping, strengthening, and preparing you for the breakthrough that is coming. Waiting is never wasted in God’s hands. Just as He revealed His glory through Lazarus, He will reveal His glory in your life. The challenge is to remain steadfast and trust Him fully, even when the outcome is not yet visible.
In such difficult seasons, here are some practical ways to strengthen your faith and endure:
1. Cry to God for the grace to wait until the end:
Waiting is not easy, and without God’s supernatural grace, it can be nearly impossible to endure. The Bible reminds us, “By strength no man shall prevail” (1 Samuel 2:9c). Many have relied on their own abilities, thinking they could endure through sheer willpower, only to be overwhelmed when circumstances pressed hard. But there is a divine strength available that sustains, protects, and empowers you to endure the challenges that come with waiting. Pray daily for this grace, asking God to renew your spirit and give you the patience to persevere.
2. Associate with those who will strengthen your faith:
The people around you can greatly influence your journey of waiting. Some may mock your commitment to trust God, casting doubt or offering ungodly alternatives. This is why it is essential to surround yourself with like-minded believers—those who also trust God and are willing to wait on Him. Such fellowship provides encouragement, strength, and support.
The Bible reminds us, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed” (Proverbs 13:20). Choose companions who uplift your spirit, strengthen your faith, and continually remind you that God’s timing is perfect.
When Scripture declares, “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31a), one of the secrets to that renewal lies in the company you keep. Walking with those who wait on the Lord will help you stay strong, hopeful, and unwavering in your faith.
3. Feed on the promises of God:
God’s Word is filled with promises for those who wait on Him. Meditating on these promises strengthens faith and keeps hope alive. One verse that sustained me during my most challenging moments was:
“Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers; they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth and lick up the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD, for they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.” (Isaiah 49:23)
As I reflected on this passage, the reality sank in: I would not be put to shame for waiting on Him. Almost every day, I meditated on that verse, constantly reminding myself of God’s assurance—I shall not be put to shame.
4. Seek the wisdom of God:
Waiting is not just about patience; it is also about seeking and understanding God’s guidance for your life. Ignorance or poor decisions can delay your breakthrough. That is why it is essential to seek God’s wisdom through prayer, meditation, and counsel from mature believers. James 1:5 reminds us: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
God’s wisdom provides clarity, direction, and strategy to navigate challenges, even in seasons of waiting. Honestly, without His wisdom, I don’t know what my situation would look like today. It was His wisdom that opened a way of escape for me.
Sometimes, ignorance can keep us stuck in the valley while we mistakenly believe we are waiting on God. I once spoke with a brother who had been struggling with challenges for years. As I listened and observed, the Lord gave me wisdom to suggest a few steps. Immediately he said, “My eyes just opened.” That counsel brought clarity. If he had taken those steps long ago, his predicaments might have been resolved much earlier.
Many of our struggles come from failing to walk in the wisdom of God. Without it, we often find ourselves going in circles, mistaking stagnation for waiting on God. Do not let the enemy rob you of peace in Christ—ask God for the baptism of divine wisdom so you can navigate the ocean of life with clarity and victory
5. Walk in obedience to His written and spoken Word:
Obedience is the foundation for peace during seasons of waiting. Even when circumstances are unclear or difficult, walking in alignment with God’s instructions keeps you secure in His protection and favor. Psalm 37:5 encourages us, “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” By obeying God faithfully, even in small matters, you position yourself to rejoice when breakthrough comes and to see the hand of God in every step of the journey.

Conclusion
Beloved, waiting on God is never wasted. Though it may test your patience and stretch your faith, it is in the waiting that God does His deepest work in you. He is not delaying because He has forgotten you—He is preparing you, shaping your character, and setting the stage for His glory to be revealed in your life.
Remember, just as Lazarus’ story did not end in the grave, your story will not end in defeat. What may appear to be over is only a setup for God to show Himself mighty on your behalf. Hold firmly to His promises, walk in His wisdom, surround yourself with faith-filled believers, and remain obedient to His Word.
No matter how long the night may feel, morning will surely come. God’s timing is perfect, His plans are good, and He will never put to shame those who wait on Him. Be encouraged today—the game is not over. Your breakthrough is on the way, and when it comes, it will be undeniable evidence of God’s faithfulness and power at work in your life.
